What is Doyobi?

Doyobi offers live, facilitated online classes for kids ages 8-13 to build a strong foundation in the skills of reading, listening, speaking, writing and critical thinking. These skills help children use the English language in a way that is meaningful and relevant to any context, be it exams or the real world.

Through immersive story adventures in our metaverse, students engage with a curriculum co-designed with Dr. Ken Mizusawa, a Lecturer in the English Language and Literature Academic Group at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore. The curriculum is aligned with the principles and components of MOE's English curriculum.

Doyobi is a winner of the MIT Solve Octava Challenge, a prestigious international award that recognises edtech solutions that utilise evidence-based educational content informed by the science of learning.

Are classes in-person or virtual?

Classes are held online in the Doyobiverse. To complement their learning, students will also be given take-home assignments that are done offline.

What equipment is needed?

Learners would simply require a laptop/desktop and a stable internet connection. No VR headset is required for our expedition to the metaverse!

During the class, learners will be asked to access multiple tabs on the browser. Hence, tablets will not be suitable.

We highly encourage kids to turn on their cameras during class as this enhances our ability to give feedback on your child’s responses, participation and speaking skills.

What if I have to miss a class?

We have makeup classes every Tuesday from 5.00pm - 6.30pm. If this isn’t feasible, we can try to make alternative arrangements, depending on availability. Please drop a note to us at hello@doyobi.com if you’d like to arrange for a makeup class or discuss alternative arrangements.

The programme is co-designed with Dr. Ken Mizusawa, a Lecturer in the English Language and Literature Academic Group at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, textbook author, and playwright. Doyobi is founded by John Tan, a Hwa Chong Institution Humanities Scholar who graduated from University College London with First Class Honours. He is an Obama Leader and currently sits on the board of Ninja Van.
